Photography & Video
Choose authentic, inclusive imagery that shows subjects engaged in learning, community, advocacy, collaboration, and mentorship. Confirm usage rights and accessibility before publishing.
Visual style
- Prefer natural moments and real environments over heavily staged stock photography.
- Represent people with dignity and avoid using a person as a symbol for an entire group or experience.
- Crop intentionally and preserve the subject’s focal point across formats.
- Place text and logos on calm areas or use an approved solid or gradient overlay for legibility.
- Use square or softly cropped rectangular frames for headshots rather than decorative circles.
Rights and consent
- Use images and footage only when NASPA has permission or a license that covers the intended channel and duration.
- Confirm model releases or event consent requirements before featuring identifiable people.
- Follow the source’s exact credit, attribution, expiration, and modification requirements.
- Keep a record of the source, license, consent, and approved use with the project files.
- Ask MarComm before using paid speakers, partner-provided media, or content with unclear rights.
Video and audio
- Provide accurate closed captions for all spoken content.
- Provide a transcript for audio-only content.
- Add audio description when essential visual information is not spoken.
- Use approved title cards, lower thirds, colors, and typography.
- Confirm music, footage, and image rights for the final distribution channel.
- Check captions, safe areas, audio levels, and end cards before export.
